The team at Best of British Beer have spent the last couple of weeks fulfilling the role of ambassadors for Holmes Mill.
For those of you that haven’t heard about it, you don’t know what you’ve been missing.
Based in the pretty Lancashire town of Clitheroe, it is not only the home of the wonderful Bowland Brewery, but a boutique hotel and bistro, a huge artisan food hall, an ice cream parlour, an Everyman cinema and last, but not least the longest bar in Britain!
Measuring just over 100ft (what’s a few inches between friends?) the bar has over 40 hand pumps with an ever changing line up of beers from Bowland Brewery and from all over Britain. Housed on the ground floor of this fantastic Victorian mill, the Beer Hall boasts many features retained from its original use including Elizabeth, a giant steam engine and a lovely snug area in the converted boiler room.
At one end of the beer hall is the Bowland Brewery itself, you can watch the beer
being made from the comfort of your leather armchair as the giant windows give you a grandstand view of the fermenting vessels. If you’re feeling a little active, we heartily recommend the brewery tour with resident host Tony. He will talk you through their award winning range of beers including Buster, the IPA that we’re featuring this month.
The food is fantastic and the overall feel of the venue is totally unique, you can learn more about the fantastic Holmes Mill at holmesmill.co.uk
