If the internet had been around in the mid 17th Century, the chances are that Best of British Beer would have sent your beer via the GPO, or General Post Office, though I guess some of the horses might have struggled with a Next Day Delivery service.
A few breweries have maintained the wonderful tradition of using dray horses to deliver their beer to local hostelries. We’ve been lucky enough to see Clydesdales Ivan and Major out working for the Windsor & Eton Brewery, dropping off at pubs with the majestic castle in the background.
For 250 years, horses were the ‘go to’ method of shifting heavy objects like beer casks until the appearance of the first motorised truck. While it could pull as much as a team of horses, it had a top speed of just 7mph and it would have taken three full working days to deliver beer from our warehouse in Staffordshire to central London.
Back to the 21st Century and the option of drone deliveries is becoming ever closer. There is already a planned ‘drone motorway’ between Cambridge and Coventry keeping the airspace clear for fleets of carriers. We could only be a couple of years away from having your beers by post sent from above.
We started the Company in 2011 and we’ve worked with most of the major parcel delivery companies over that time. Our chosen partner for the last 8 years has been DHL and we’re really pleased to be working with them. On a busy day, we shift 15 pallets from the warehouse which is around 10,000 pints of beer. We’re delighted with a successful delivery rate of around 98.8%.
