Since its founding in 1986 by two old school friends, Nethergate has grown from a small village operation to an established regional brewery.
The journey began over a pint in the charming village of Clare, Suffolk. Ian Hornsey, a microbiologist and Dick Burge, a city financier shared a deep love for cask beer that inspired them to establish the brewery on their local high street.
Their first creations, Suffolk County and Old Growler swiftly won the admiration of local ale enthusiasts, catapulting their reputation to new heights. What started on a small high street 38 years ago has flourished into a dynamic brewery that champions both tradition and innovation.
Their passionate team of beer-lovers, led by Head Brewer, Ian Carson continue to push the boundaries of the industry. The beer we’ve chosen to feature is their White Stout, a fine example of this creativity.
