conwy brewery

Conway brewery or Bragdi Conwy in the vernacular was the brainchild of Gwynne Thomas, a chemist by trade but a local man with a passion for great beer. He perfected the recipes in his garage back in 2003 on home brew kit, before taking the plunge and becoming the third brewery to open in north Wales for over 100 years.

The business started to take off with local supermarket listings, an ever increasing range of beers and lots of awards. This success resulted in the move to their current site.

Set high up on a hillside in the village of Llysfaen with panoramic views over the Clywdian hills and Irish Sea. We’re not sure there’s a better view to enjoy while savouring your pint than from the MASH taproom here.

All the production and administration is completed on site, so the brewing, bottling, labelling and shipping are all done in house by the team of ten.

Things have moved on a bit since Gwynne’s garage, although his son Oliver is still involved in the business.

In addition to tasting wonderful, the beer is brewed with minimal impact on the environment.

Solar power accounts for 30% of the electricity used, spent grain is provided as cattle feed and waste beer, hops and wort generate energy through an anaerobic digester.

All Conway Brewery beers are bottle conditioned for that ‘just pulled’ cask flavour, so pour slowly and carefully if you want to keep any sediment out of your glass.
