April 2023 Monthly Beer Club Tasting Notes

April's Monthly Beer Club has our most local brewery- Titanic as the featured brewer. One of the first brewers we ever stocked and a permament feature in many local pubs.

Titanic Brewery was established in 1985 and is named in tribute to the captain of RMS Titanic, Edward Smith, who was born and raised in Stoke-on-Trent where the brewery is based. Originally set up at the rear of a local pub, the brewery is today led by brothers Keith and Dave Bott, who have been proudly shipping their beers from the Potteries across the UK for nearly 40 years.

Their first brew was a quaffable bitter called Titanic Premium. Local drinkers loved the easy-going flavour and this was quickly followed by a lighter, session pale ale.

Another favourite in the local pubs, these beers set the benchmark for all Titanic beers that followed and remain part of fleet to this day, unchanged apart from the names they now bear – Anchor and Steerage.

It’s the darker beers in Titanic’s range that are most well-known today. Titanic Stout was first brewed in 1993 and has been hugely popular in both keg and bottle. It has the honour of being one of a select few to win CAMRA’s Champion Bottled Beer of Britain contest on multiple occasions.

Titanic’s flagship beer today though is undoubtedly Plum Porter. First brewed as a one-off special in 2011, it has gone on to win award after award. Over 10 million pints of this smooth, sweet porter have been brewed and it’s gone on to inspire spin-offs including a port-infused Grand Reserve Plum Porter, and more recently Cherry Porter, which is featured in this month's club. You'd think that porter would be a summer drink but we've seen Plum Porter be an all year round favourite so we're sure you're going to love this as well.
